One of two BMWs “driving aggressively and racing one another” struck a pedestrian standing on the shoulder of Highway 401near Renforth Drive early Sunday afternoon, leaving the victim with life-threatening injuries.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said a truckdriver had pulled off on to the shoulder to check his load just a few minutes after noon Sunday. One of the racing vehicles then struck the passenger, who had exited the truck.
He was transported to hospital with life threatening injuries.
The driver of the BMW that struck the victim remained at the scene while the other vehicle drove away from the scene.
Police are hoping that driver will turn himself in and are asking any witnesses to call #MississaugaOPP at (905) 858-8670.
All westbound lanes are closed at Highway 427, with police hoping they can get the lanes open sometime this afternoon.
The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, Schmidt added.
