Wendy’s becomes latest restaurant to add plant-based menu option

Wendy’s has launched a new, plant-based burger option that is intended to provide those who don’t eat meat with an option that is both meatless and flavourful.

Dubbed the Plantiful, the new burger is made of Canadian ingredients and made in-house–something no other restaurant in the quick service Quick restaurant industry is doing with plant-based menu options.

The Plantiful is made from pea-based protein and is served with lettuce, onions, pickles, tomato, mayonnaise, ketchup and a slice of cheese on a premium bun–similar to Wendy’s’ traditional burgers.

“Plant-based product offerings have become an expectation of Canadian consumers. We developed a flexitarian option the Wendy’s Way—using high quality, flavorful ingredients—and this resulted in what we believe is the best plant-based burger available to Canadians,” Lisa Deletroz, Senior Director of Marketing for Wendy’s Canada, said in a news release.

“No one does food like Wendy’s, and the idea of offering the same product as other competitors was simply not an option for the Wendy’s Canada team,” she continued.
