Welland is looking to get an edge at hiring students for summer and seasonal jobs in the city by blitzing three upcoming job fairs at Brock University and Niagara College.

“We’re looking at hiring more than 150 seasonal and causal positions this year,” said Brooke Iannuzzelli, Welland’s HR coordinator.

“Job fairs allow us to speak one-on-one with potential applicants and answer any questions they may have. They are a great way to get familiar with an organization, and we’re excited to share with everyone the benefits of working in Welland this year.”

With over 1,500 students expected to descend onto three separate job fairs, Welland staff are going to focus on the unique opportunities and complimentary training offered by the city this year.

The three upcoming job fairs are:
February 7: Niagara College, Welland Campus, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Learning Commons.
February 8: Brock University, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
February 9: Niagara College, Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Yerich Auditorium.

Available jobs in Welland this year focus on camp positions, aquatics, public works, parks, the Empire Sportsplex,
casual labour, and co-op positions.

However, Welland staff knows that only some students have the means, opportunity, or time to obtain the necessary certifications or licenses needed for some of their seasonal employment so they will be funding “opportunities for successful applicants who require training or certification in national lifeguard certification, pleasure craft operation, CPR/First Aid, and food handling.”
