Welland motorist collides with 83-year-old man on bike

Niagara Police is still trying to reconstruct the scene after an 83-year-old man on a bike was struck by a car in Welland yesterday (January 11).

The police were called to the East Main Street and McAlpine Avenue South area at 6:40 pm and determined the man of the bicycle and a 42-year-old driving a car were headed in the same direction on East Main.

They reported that the bike cut in front of the car, which then swerved at an attempt to avoid the two-wheeler. The car then collided with a nearby wall.

The bicyclist was taken to hospital with with life-threatening injuries while the driver was unhurt.

The investigation is continuing with the Collision Reconstruction Unit of the Niagara Police.
