Welland man faces firearms charges

A Welland man is facing three firearms-related changes after a weeks-long police investigation.

Niagara Regional Police Services say that its detectives, with assistance from the 3 District street crime unit and the emergency task unit, executed a warrant in the area of Darby Road and Schisler Road on Wednesday (Sept. 1). They found a Remington 770 rifle and two rounds of ammunition.

The investigation began in July.

Michael J. Racine, 54, of Welland, is charged with:

  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order
  • Possession of a firearm  knowing its possession is unauthorized

Racine will have a future court date.
