The 83 year old man struck by a car while riding his bicycle in Welland on Tuesday (January 11) has died in the hospital.

Niagara Police have not named him “out of respect for next of kin,” nor have they named the 42 year old man driving the car that hit him. So far, no charges have been laid.

The initial police report indicated that the driver heading east on East Main Street did his best to avoid the late cyclist who pulled in front of his car, even crashing into a wall in an attempt to avoid him.

The particulars of the incident are still under investigation by the Niagara Police’s Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Anyone who may have been in the area or anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at 905-688-4111, ext. 1009433.
