Welland crash sends 72-year-old cyclist to hospital: Niagara Police

Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) is investigating after a 72-year-old cyclist sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by a pick-up truck in Welland on Tuesday (Dec. 21).

Police said they were called to the scene of the crash in the area of King and 4th Streets Tuesday afternoon to reports of the collision.

When they arrived, officers found the injured man, who was treated on the scene by Niagara Emergency Medical Service paramedics. He was taken to a local hospital and was later airlifted to an out-of-region hospital for further care.

The 59-year-old man who was driving the grey 2000 Chevrolet Silverado involved in the collision was not injured.

Detectives from the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit have been assigned to the investigation, they are being assisted by detectives from the NRPS Forensic Services Unit.
