Mississauga and Brampton residents can soon start getting ready to toss out leaves, branches, trimmings and other types of yard waste.

Peel Region’s weekly yard waste collection begins Monday, October 3 and runs until Friday, December 9.

During that roughly two-month period, the following items will be picked up at the curb:

  • Leaves and yard rakings with debris
  • Tree trimmings, branches
  • Brush, hedge trimmings
  • Household and garden plants
  • Halloween pumpkins (without the candle)

Residents can check Peel’s collection calendar to verify their yard waste collection day.

There are a few things to keep in mind when putting yard waste on the curb: It must be at the curb by 7 a.m. and will only be collected in a Kraft brown paper bag, or any bin or container clearly labelled “yard waste” with a marker or sticker.

Yard waste in plastic bags will not be collected.

Additionally, grass clippings are not accepted at the curb or at any Community Recycling Centre.

“Collectors may open and check yard waste bags to ensure only acceptable items are picked up,” the Region says.

As for Caledon residents, those living in urban areas will continue to receive bi-weekly yard waste collection on their scheduled days, while the rural areas of Caledon will have their yard waste picked up on designated Fridays.
