Weekend weather: Severe thunderstorms forecast in southern Ontario

Rain with a chance of severe thunderstorms is forecast in southern Ontario this weekend.

After days of poor air quality due to smoke from wildfires, southern Ontario should have better conditions on the weekend.

However, there is a chance of rain and thunderstorms on Saturday.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued orange-level warnings for air quality on Wednesday and Thursday. Forecasters are expecting conditions to improve on Friday morning.

Mainly sunny skies with a high of around 28 C, feeling like 30 C with the humidex, is forecast for Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Burlington, Oakville, Hamilton, Niagara Falls and Durham Region, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

There is a 40 per cent chance of showers on Friday evening, and the temperature could drop to 17 C.

On Saturday, there is a 60 cent chance of rain with a high of 27 C forecast, according to Environment Canada. With the humidity, it could feel like 37 C on Saturday afternoon, according to the Weather Network.

The Weather Network is forecasting a chance of severe thunderstorms throughout the day on Saturday.

The chance of showers drops to 30 per cent in the evening. A low of 17 C is forecast for Saturday night.

Sunday may be the best day of the weekend. A mix of sun and cloud is expected with a high of 27 C. A cool low of 15 C is expected in the evening.

It could be slightly cooler in Hamilton and Niagara Falls, with a high of 26 C expected on Sunday.

Normal temperatures for this time of year are around 27 C highs and 15 C lows, according to Environment Canada.
