One of the final weekends of summer could be a wet one, Environment Canada warns.

Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) recently announced that a flood outlook is in effect in southern Ontario.

CVC says remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon may bring in significant amounts of moisture into the region.

“The current Environment Canada weather outlook for Sunday into Monday states that heavy rainfall is expected to begin over portions of southern Ontario beginning Sunday afternoon, with total rainfall amounts of 30 to 60 mm possible before coming to an end on Monday,” CVC writes.

CVC says there is the potential for higher rainfall amounts–especially over southern regions closer to Lake Erie and Lake Ontario–but adds that there is still “considerable uncertainty” at this time.

It also warns that there may also be some thunderstorm activity, as well as storm surges on Lake Ontario.

CVC says that flooding along the Credit River and its major tributaries may occur in low-lying areas if we experience excess rain.

Residents should also remember that intense rainfall can cause flash floods in urban areas.

CVC says local streams, rivers and shorelines could become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts, bridges and dams. People should stay away from watercourses, and ensure that children and pets do the same.
