Drivers frustrated over the constant congestion and delays on the Burlington Skyway can turn to a new website for help.

The site will provide real-time data on traffic conditions along the bridge that carries the QEW over Hamilton Harbour, as well as provide updates on ongoing construction.

Work on the Skyway has been a lengthy process and has arrived in different phases. The current work started in May of 2024 and is expected to be completed late in 2026. Construction has led to lane closures that have taken place over many weekends and will continue until the project is complete.

The lane closures have led to heavy traffic through the area and lengthy delays for those travelling to Niagara on weekends.

In an explanation on the new website, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) says it has retained Alliance Verdi Civil Inc. as the contractor to undertake the rehabilitation of the 2.2 km bridge. AECOM Canada ULC has also been retained by MTO to provide construction administration and oversight of the project.

The construction involves upgrades in both directions, with much of the work concentrated in the Niagara-bound lanes.

The MTO says the work is necessary to extend the life of the bridge that lets thousands of vehicles each day navigate their way through Hamilton and Burlington without affecting local traffic.

As well as providing up-to-date traffic information, the website will also warn motorists of upcoming lane closures that can cause delays.
