Departing and arriving flights are cancelled out of Pearson Airport in Mississauga due to weather and a strike.

Halifax Standfield Airport has advised flights may be cancelled today (March 7) due to the weather.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a rainfall warning for most of Nova Scotia today. Heavy rain is expected — from 30 to 50 mm.

“Please be advised that inclement weather is forecast for today and tomorrow, which may impact your flight schedule,”  Halifax Standfield Airport said in a post on X.

Thus far, airlines have cancelled one of the 14 flights scheduled to connect travellers to Halifax Standfield from Pearson Airport, Pearson said on social media.

Flights to and from Charlottetown, PEI could also be impacted by weather. A freezing warning has been issued for the area and could cancel flights today and tomorrow.

“Please check local travel advisories, and with your airline directly for any changes or cancellations,” Charlottetown Airport said on X.

This comes as a security staff strike is expected to halt all planned departures from Frankford, Germany today.

The airport’s operator, Fraport, asked all passengers starting their journey in Frankfurt not to come to the airport on March 7.

Lufthansa Airlines said in an update on social media that its operations on Friday, in addition to Thursday, will be limited to “10 to 20 per cent of our flight schedule” due to the airport security staff strike in Germany.

Security staff at the airports in Frankfurt and Hamburg will be striking on March 7,  Lufthansa said.

“Hence, access to the departure area will not be possible. We ask all passengers who wish to begin their journey in Frankfurt or Hamburg on March 7th not to go to the airport,” the post read.

As always, travellers heading to Pearson should check their flight status.
