Weather statements have been issued by Environment Canada for much of southern Ontario.
They cover an area stretching from Durham Region, south to Windsor.
A low-pressure system will bring strong winds and heavy rain to the region. There is also a risk of severe thunderstorms.
Showers are expected to begin in extreme southwestern Ontario later in the afternoon on Wednesday or early in the evening. As you move north, they’re expected to begin in the evening, including in the Greater Toronto Area.
Rain will intensify as the low-pressure system approaches, forecasters said.
“There is a potential for severe thunderstorms late this evening and overnight with heavy rain and strong wind gusts being the primary threats,” Environment Canada said for areas generally north and east of Woodstock.
In extreme southwestern Ontario, including London and Windsor, severe thunderstorms may occur in the evening.
“Rainfall amounts of 40 mm or greater are possible as a result of the thunderstorms and showers with this system,” Environment Canada said.
Wind gusts of 70 to 90 km/h are expected in many places, with even stronger gusts possible in thunderstorms.
“Watches or warnings may be issued closer to the event as the path of this low-pressure system becomes more certain,” forecasters said.
