Weather statement calls for very strong winds in Mississauga, Brampton, Burlington, Oakville and Milton

It’s going to be a windy one today in Mississauga, Brampton and Halton Region.

A special weather statement has been issued for strong southwesterly winds gusting up to 70 or 80 km/h.

The strong winds are expected to continue through the day before weakening this evening.

The strongest wind gusts are expected near the Niagara escarpment as well as along the shoreline of Lake Ontario.

Some damage to tree branches may occur as well as some local power outages.
