WEATHER ALERT: -30 C wind chills raise frostbite risk across southern Ontario

A blast of Arctic air is bringing dangerously cold wind chills to parts of southern Ontario.

According to Environment Canada, Mississauga, Brampton, Halton Region, Hamilton and Durham Region will experience wind chill values between -25 C and -30 C, creating a heightened risk of frostbite for anyone spending extended time outdoors.

The weather agency says the period of extreme cold will develop Sunday night and persist into Monday morning as Arctic air settles across the region.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk, particularly young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, individuals working or exercising outdoors and those without proper shelter.

Additionally, Environment Canada warns frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially when wind is present.

Residents are advised to cover exposed areas, dress in layers and seek shelter from the wind when possible.

Individuals are also reminded that if temperatures feel too cold for people to remain outside safely, they are also too cold for pets.
