A Toronto man is facing weapons and impaired charges after AIR 1 had to be called in to help with the takedown after the suspect fled a police traffic stop in Ajax.
Durham Police initiated a stop initiated a traffic stop at Audley Road and Kerrison Drive Wednesday evening at 7:40 p.m. Officers observed signs of impairment and demanded the driver exit the vehicle, only to see him flee at a “high rate of speed.”
Police did not pursue and with the help of AIR located the suspect, who then got into another car, forcing a second traffic stop, where the man was taken into custody.
During the arrest, a loaded firearm with laser sight and prohibited extended magazine was discovered in the suspect’s waistband.
At the time of his arrest the accused, Roy Palmer, 38, was bound by a lifetime weapons prohibition.
Palmer was charged with dangerous operation, flight from police, impaired cooperation and exceed .08, two counts of breach of probation and six weapons charges, including possession of a loaded firearm.
He was held for a bail hearing.
