With more than 250 restaurants, bakeries, breweries, cafes and other food and beverage providers in town, Ajax Council believes it’s time residents learned of the culinary delights in their hometown.
“Ajax has some of the best food in the GTA,” said Councillor Sterling Lee, who introduced the motion to develop an Ajax Food Guide to showcase the diverse offerings available to residents and visitors alike.
“It’s a great way to highlight some of the more amazing businesses and foods in Ajax.”

The culinary offerings in Ajax are as diverse as the residents with influences from around the world and the development of the food guide would help residents and visitors access the local food and beverage scene and discover “new and exciting” cuisines, he explained.
“We could be the food destination of Durham Region.”
Lee, citing a similar venture from Oshawa that has enjoyed a level of success, said the guide will be more than just a listing of available restaurants – “we’d class it up a bit” – with in-depth stories of the restaurants and the people behind them.
The guide, with a limited number of hard copies to be available, with a launch to kick off the project planned for later this year, will be funded with $10,000 from the capital contingency reserve.
“Any way we can support small business,” said Councillor Marilyn Crawford, “is money well spent.”
