WATCH: Spider-Man runs on field in Hamilton during McMaster Marauders’ football loss

Like a streak of light, he arrived just in time to give fans in Hamilton the hero they needed.

An intrepid videographer captured a person costumed as Spider-Man realizing one of Homer Simpson’s lifelong dreams, running out on to the field at a game, at Ron Joyce Stadium last Saturday. When his Spidey senses let him know it was go time, this Spider-Man showed some decent wheels, sprinting down the field in front of the McMaster Marauders’ bench area. He went out of bounds around the five-yard line and then scaled a fence to evade any would-be tacklers.

The crowd that was attending the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) football game between the host Marauders and Western Mustangs responded with cheers. One McMaster official feinted toward the field invader, but then pulled back, since he was — cue the NFL Films score — dealing with not so much a man but a force of nature, destined not to be brought down by just one man.

McMaster supporters might not have had a lot to cheer about otherwise, since the Marauders lost 47-14 against the defending Vanier Cup champion and nationally No. 1-ranked Mustangs, whose quarterback is Hamilton native Evan Hillock.

The defeat leaves McMaster (1-4) at great risk of missing Yates Cup football playoffs for the second season in a row since the resumption of university sports following a pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Typically, it takes at least a 4-4 record to make the playoffs.

To achieve that, McMaster would have to win out over its remaining schedule and, presumably, do it without suiting up any superheroes.
