WATCH: Hamilton Police release video of Barton Street shooting

The Hamilton Police Service released surveillance footage of the Wednesday (July 28) afternoon shooting in the central part of the city.

In the video, a dark-coloured vehicle can be seen parked behind a restaurant patio near the corner of Oak Ave and Barton St East with the driver-side door open. A person can be seen behind the wheel.

A second male then exits a different dark-coloured vehicle, which is stopped in the middle of the road. The second male runs toward the opened driver-side door of the other vehicle and appears to fire multiple shots at the person behind the wheel.

The incident occured just before 5:30 p.m.

The victim in the video was transported to hospital with serious injuries. No further update was provided.

The police describe the shooter in the video as a black male, between 5-foot-10 and 6-foot-5. He was reportedly wearing a black, hooded sweater with a logo or writing on the front. The suspect was also wearing black pants and a surgical mask.

Hamilton police believe it was a targeted shooting and say “two men exchanged gunfire” over the course of the incident.

One arrest was made in connection with the altercation. Donovan Hines, 23, of Hamilton is facing seven different firearm-related charges.
