A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for a 19-year-old Brampton man, who is wanted in relation to a fatal hit-and-run collision last month where a woman was killed.

Investigators from Peel Regional Police’s major collision bureau have seized the black 2009 Honda Accord that involved in the crash on Feb. 20 in Mississauga. They have also confirmed that the suspect, Brampton resident Pawan Malik, has fled the country.

Peel police say the local Crown attorney has confirmed they will seek Malik’s extradition so that he may be prosecuted for the alleged offences.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call investigators at the Major Collision Bureau (905) 453-2121, ext. 3710. Information may also be left anonymously by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visiting peelcrimestoppers.ca.

A month ago Sunday, 24-year-old Kavita Chodhary was walking along Derry Road East and began to cross the road at Cattrick Street. Chodhary was struck by a dark-coloured vehicle. The vehicle and occupant fled the scene and did not stop to render any assistance to the victim.

The warrant for Malik’s arrest has been issued on a charge of failure to stop after accident resulting in death. The maximum sentence for a conviction under the charge is 10 years.
