A convicted fraudster who has allegedly breached his parole may be in the Hamilton area, say the Ontario Provincial Police.

The OPP’s ROPE (Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement) squad says there is a Canada-wide warrant out for 60-year-old Kevin Belanger. Belanger is described as a Caucasian male who is five-foot-seven and around 142 ounds with grey hair and brown eyes.

Along with Hamilton, he is known to frequent the Cornwall, Prescott and Ottawa areas.

(Update, Aug. 5: Belanger has been apprehended in Gatineau, Que., near Ottawa.)

Belanger is serving a six-year, three-month sentence on a skein of fraud convictions. Those include impersonating a peace officer (seven counts), fraud under $5,000 (five counts); identity fraud; possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000; utting a forged document; failure to comply with recognizance; and using a badge to impersonate a peace officer.

He had served most of his sentence at Joyceville Institution in Kingston, Ont., before being granted full parole. According to an article on SpiritLive, Belanger was the inmate committee chairman, serving as a liaison between prison management and the inmate population, at Joyceville.

Anyone having contact with Belanger or information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact the OPP ROPE squad at 416-808-5900 or toll free at 1-866-870-7673 (ROPE). They can also contact Crimestoppers (1-800-222-8477) or call 9-1-1.
