Wainfleet man charged after stabbing in Niagara Falls

A Wainfleet man has been charged after a weekend scuffle in front of a Niagara Falls house resulted in a man being stabbed.

Niagara Police responded to the scene of a called-in disturbance at a house on Stanton Ave. near Ferguson St. on March 18 at 9:25 pm.

Once there, they found a 26-year-old Niagara Falls man who had been stabbed. Niagara EMS quickly transported him to an out-of-town hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Police say the suspect took off on foot, causing the Canine Unit to be called in. Police say an officer found him on Elgin St and arrested him by 9:33 pm. The involved knife was recovered at the same time.

Jesse Shute, 26, of Wainfleet, has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon.

Shute was held in custody for a bail hearing yesterday (March 19).  He was released with his next court appearance set for April 19 at the courthouse in St. Catharines.
