Halton Region has called a special meeting on Saturday (March 19) to deal with the mask mandate in Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills.

The Region is moving up the vote initially scheduled for next Wednesday (March 23) and is expected to end the mask bylaw on Monday (March 21) “to be in sync” with the province’s decision to end its mask mandate on the same day.

After consulting with Halton Public Health and the Halton Medical Officer of Health, Halton Regional Staff will recommend amending the expiration clause of By-law No. 47-20.

“The vote scheduled to take place at Regional Council is necessary as Halton’s mask mandate is a bylaw and a bylaw needs a Council vote to change or remove it,” said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton.
