Virtual Pride Month being celebrated in Brampton

June is Pride month and the City of Brampton will be celebrating virtually with online events, wellness activities and performances to create a safe space where the LGBTTIQQ2SA community can recognize and share their diverse voices and stories.

Pride is an internationally-recognized movement that celebrates kindness and compassion. Pride events hosted in Brampton celebrate by engaging and communicating with diverse groups, supporting cultural events and developing a framework to embed diversity and inclusivity throughout the city.

“Pride events empower the LGBTQ+ community to celebrate and share their diverse voices and stories and teaches residents the many faces and identities within the community,: sand Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, who raised the virtual Pride flag on June.1. “The City of Brampton is a mosaic that celebrates diversity through celebrations like Pride and allows residents to feel unity, strength and engagement.”

Highlights during this year’s Pride Week include:

  • A performance by Witch Prophet, with Toronto based Ethiopian/Eritrean singer-songwriter Ayo Leilani on June 6, from 6 to 8 pm;
  • From June 7 and 11, Moyo Health and Community Services will hold a series of lunch & learn programs beginning at noon;
  • A yoga and mediation hour with City of Brampton Recreation on June 7 from 8 to 9 p.m.
  • Algoma University hosts a panel discussion on June 8 at 8 p.m.;
  • On June 12 at 8 p.m. there will be a performances curated by Brampton Performing Arts

Pride in the Square

On June 13, Pride in the Square presented by TD returns with a full day of virtual family activities beginning with Fay & Fluffy’s story time at 11 a.m.; Loud & Proud fitness dance at 6 p.m., hosted by City of Brampton Recreation; Queeriahcity: special presentation with Mango Lassi, Urvah Khan, Qurat Dar, Almasi and Sargon at 7 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., there will be a live performance by Micah Barnes.
