Violent sex assault leads to charges for Ontario man on house arrest

Investigators say they’ve made and arrest and laid charges in a violent sexual assault that happened in a Whitby park earlier this week.

Durham Regional Police say the attack happened around 10:15 p.m. on Monday in Iroquois Beach Park in the area of Gordon Street and Waterfront Trail in Whitby.

Police say the victim was leaving the park and walking along the sand path that runs northwest toward Gordon Street when she was assaulted by an unknown male.

“The suspect forced the victim off the path into a tree line where he made threats and sexually assaulted her,” police said in a release on Friday.

Investigators with the Special Victims Unit say they identified a suspect with the assistance of tips from the public, and that a 33-year-old male suspect was arrested on Thursday.

Durham police say Dwayne Horace Daley, 33, of Ajax, has been charged with sexual assault, uttering threats, robbery, and four counts of fail to comply with release order.

Police say the accused was bound by house arrest curfew conditions. He was held for a bail hearing.
