VIN 001, the first truck off the Oshawa assembly line, on its way to Quebec dealership

The first truck to roll off the assembly lines at the re-opened General Motors plant in Oshawa is on its way to Quebec today.

GM held a contest among its dealers to raffle off tickets for the rights to buy VIN 001, a white Silverado HD ‘High Country’ with exclusive graphics, raising $115,000 for the Durham Children’s Aid Foundation in the process.

The winning dealer is Paille Chevrolet Buick GMC in Berthierville, Quebec.

The Oshawa plant re-opened November 9 after a shutdown of nearly two years that many observers thought was permanent.

Scott Bell the President and Managing Director of GM Canada, called the plant’s re-opening an “historic accomplishment” made possible by the company, the CAW union, and the many community partners “who worked together to bring us to this very happy day.”

“The rapid retooling, hiring, and training needed to reach today’s start of production was an extraordinary accomplishment. We continue our work with the federal and Ontario governments toward even larger transformative investments in Canada.”
