Since 1981 Mississauga and Kariya city in Japan have enjoyed a sister-city relationship, exchanging friendship and cultural delegations.

Most will know that there is  a Kariya Park in Mississauga and it was officially opened in 1992, honouring at the time the eleventh anniversary of our twin-city relationship with Kariya City in Japan.

Many people don’t know that in Kariya City in Japan there is a Mississauga Park that commemorates the twin-city relationship with us.

Kariya city in Japan might have had commonalities in 1981 but now not so much.

While Mississauga has grown in population and is becoming a major metropolis in Canada, Kariya city is an older city and the population is 145,000 with very aging population. There are so many seniors there that all public transit is free all the time.

The park itself is very beautiful and is right in the middle of the Japanese city.

This Mississauga Park has a small version of the Mississauga City Hall as the centre piece that you can actually see the time on the clock tower.
