Police have charged a Brampton teen and are still searching for two more suspects following a daylight robbery at a jewellery store caught on camera.

The smash-and-grab happened around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday when three suspects armed with hammers entered a jewellery store at a Brampton shopping mall, demanding money and jewellery.

The suspects then attacked display cases, smashing them with the hammers and removing what police called “a significant quantity of merchandise.”

As the glass shatters, security guards arrive and can be seen telling a man wearing a grey hoodie and mask to “drop the hammer,” but the man refuses multiple times before climbing on top of the counter and getting taken down by security.

Another man in a black hoodie moves can be seen making a break from the guards, managing to evade security as a bystander also tries to grab the escaping man.

Despite the dramatic confrontation, police say no physical injuries were reported by store staff or security officers. One of the suspects was arrested by Peel Regional Police at the scene but investigators say two others are still at large.
