VIDEO: Reimagined rollercoaster officially opens at Canada’s Wonderland

One of the much-loved rollercoaster rides at Canada’s Wonderland is back with a new name, updated trains and high-flying thrills.

Canada’s Wonderland celebrated the grand opening of The DareDeviler rollercoaster on Thursday during its KidZfest days.

The rollercoaster was previously called Flight Deck and, before that, when the theme park was partially owned by Paramount Parks, was called Top Gun and now features new trains and “targeted track refinements,” the park says.

The new trains have improved seating and open vest-style restraints, while the track improvements deliver a “smoother, more dynamic ride,” Wonderland says.

The rollercoaster’s new theme still keeps to its aviation roots and is based on stunt pilots and air shows of the 1920s. Wonderland says that the ride is designed to “make riders feel like they’ve taken the controls of a legendary stunt plane.”

Wonderland shared a first-person view of the new rollercoaster with INsauga.com, and the dizzying footage gives viewers a feel for the twists, turns, flips and corkscrews The DareDeviler has to offer.

Wonderland says riders can expect “enhanced comfort and visibility for an immersive flying sensation.”

“At the turn of the 20th century, world expositions captivated crowds with visions of the future. Among the wonders of that era was a revolutionary experimental aircraft unveiled by French inventor Étienne Vallon,” Wonderland says. “Known as The DareDeviler, the prototype was engineered to attempt maneuvers no aircraft of its time could safely achieve.”

Canada’s Wonderland opened for the season in May, and other updated attractions include 980 feet of track replaced on The Mighty Canadian Minebuster – one of three wooden rollercoasters at the park.
