Two homes have been badly damaged in what police are calling a possible explosion in Brampton.

A 911 call reporting a blast at a home on Van Kirk Drive near McLaughlin Road came in around 1:20 p.m. on Thursday, according to Peel Regional Police.

Witnesses heard explosions at the scene, according to reports, and Brampton Fire and Emergency Services (BFAS) Chief Bill Boyes says two homes suffered “significant fire damage” in the blaze.

A video of the aftermath shared on social media shows one of the homes completely engulfed in flames with a large plume of black smoke and flames rising from the gutted building.

Photos shared from the scene show at least three BFES fire trucks dousing the homes with an aerial attack, Despite the efforts of first responders, a witness to the blaze said there was “nothing firefighters could have done to save this home when they arrived.”

Peel Paramedic Services confirmed that paramedics were on standby but no injuries were reported in the fire and no patients were treated at the scene.

Peel Regional Police and the Ontario Fire Marshal are investigating and no cause of the blaze has been determined.

A police spokesperson told on Thursday that investigators were unable to confirm “whether or not this is a criminal investigation.”
