The Durham Regional Police Property Bureau went up in smoke Sunday night in a blaze that kept local firefighters busy for hours.

Highway 401 between Courtice Road and Highway 418 as well as portions of Highway 418 were shut down for at least an hour as a precaution.

The fire was on Courtice Court near Baseline Road, between Courtice Road and McKnight Road.

A DRPS media officer was on the scene at nine p.m. Sunday though it is unclear at this time if the arson is suspected or if evidence from any upcoming prominent trials were destroyed in the blaze.

The facility is where vehicles involved in serious collisions and police investigations are stored, and it also houses the police force’s vintage vehicles.

The building was “fully engulfed” by the time emergency responders arrived. There were no injuries.

More details are expected Monday morning.
