VIDEO: Police body cam shows officer saving a stabbing victim, arresting suspect in Brampton

Peel police have released body cam footage related to a Brampton stabbing incident, which resulted in the responding officer being awarded for her courage.

The incident took place at around 2 a.m. on February 7, 2022. Police received multiple 911 calls from panicked community members reporting that a female had been stabbed at a Brampton pharmacy.

Cst. Judith Solomon was the first one to respond to the call at the end of her 12-hour shift.

Police say she entered the pharmacy “without back-up or hesitation.” The only information she had was that a victim had been stabbed in the neck, and that the culprit was still somewhere inside the store.

“My mind was just kind of like, all over the place because I didn’t know what I was getting into,” said Solomon.

Solomon went inside and found the victim laying on the floor with family members around her. She directed one of the family members to put pressure on the victim’s neck to keep the bleeding down.

Solomon then evacuated people out of the store and located the female suspect with the help of an employee.

“I walked up to the female, kept a bit of a distance just in case she still had any weapons on her,” said Solomon. “She had her hands up, so that kind of gave me a sigh of relief, like this arrest might go by a lot easier.”

The suspect was arrested without incident. Solomon then returned to the victim to administer life-saving first aid before paramedics arrived to transport the victim to the trauma centre at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto.

“Due to the first aid rendered at the pharmacy, the victim is expected to make a full recovery,” Peel police said in a statement today (May 27).

“Solomon’s heroic actions prevented loss of life, harm to others and a volatile situation from escalating.”

Cst. Solomon was commended for her efforts with an Axon RISE Officer Award. She won the award after thousands of community votes were cast across Canada and the U.S. in recognition of officers “for saving a life or showing exemplary performance.”

Peel police said they’re able to recognize Solomon’s heroism due to the force’s newly implemented body-worn cameras.

The footage from the body cams is available to watch via a video posted by police today (May 27):
