Video: Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory holding special program this weekend

Guests will get a chance to "tag and release" Monarch Butterflies this Saturday and Sunday at the Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory.

Need something colourful to do with the family this long weekend that involves flight but no airplanes?

Look no further than the Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory (2565 Niagara Pkwy) in Niagara-on-the-Lake as they hold their popular Majestic Monarchs education program on September 3 and 4  from 10 am to 2 pm both days.

The program gives guests “the unique opportunity to take part in the international research tracking program, Monarch Watch, which tags and releases the endangered butterfly as it begins its remarkable journey south toward Mexico.”

There will be a live “Tag and Release” demonstration every half hour, starting at 10:30 am, an event that provides visitors with an opportunity to tag and release a butterfly to follow on the University of Kansas’ Monarch Watch tracking website found HERE.

With Niagara Parks’ long-standing mandate to preserve and protect the natural environment, guests are welcome to learn about Niagara Parks’ legacy prairie garden made for pollinators and endangered species, along with no-mow lands across the 56-kilometre Niagara Corridor.

The free educational event at the Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory helps guests discover the incredible migratory journey of the monarch butterfly and learn how they can help with conservation efforts.

It will take place among the native plantings in the sensory garden in front of the Butterfly Conservatory, within the grounds of the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and School of Horticulture.
