Ontario Liberal candidate for Brampton West Rimmy Jhajj says an incident where her campaign signs were torn down shouldn’t be a reflection on the people in the riding.

“It is disappointing to see the vandalism and theft of our signs in Brampton West,” Jhajj told insauga.com. on Friday (May 13) after a video of her election signs being torn down in Brampton was shared with the party.

A home security camera captured the incident on video as a man exits a work van branded with the company name “Camp Forming” before ripping down signs on a property in the area of James Potter Rd. and Bovaird Dr.

“These actions do not reflect the character of our riding,” Jhajj said. “I hope that we can finish the rest of this election period with respect and that everyone will feel safe to express their opinions.”

A Peel Regional Police spokesperson confirmed with insauga.com that the incident has been reported and is under investigation.

According to the company’s website, Camp Forming is a concrete forming company based out of Vaughan.

No spokesperson from the company was immediately available for comment as of Friday morning, but according to reports the company said it was “not aware of such behaviour with our vehicles, nor do we condone it.”

“A full investigation will be conducted and the company will take appropriate action,” the statement read.

But the Liberals aren’t the only party to have election signs tampered with, as incumbent Brampton West Ontario PC candidate Amarjot Sandhu has reportedly also had signs removed from the riding.

Removing or tampering with election signs is a criminal offence, and is prohibited under the Canada Elections Act.
