VIDEO: Jewelry store robbery goes wrong at Oshawa, Ontario mall as citizens help with takedown

Three adults and two teens are in custody after an armed robbery at a jewelry store in the Oshawa Centre on Sunday that involved citizen takedowns inside the mall and a foot chase in the parking lot.

Police responded to a robbery call at the Bellagio Jewellers II in the Oshawa Centre just before 4 p.m. Sunday. Four males had gone into the jewelry store and deployed bear spray while smashing display cases. A fifth suspect remained in a waiting vehicle.

The suspects attempted to flee the mall prior to police arrival but two were caught and held inside by citizens and mall security. The other three suspects got in a waiting vehicle and were subsequently involved in a minor collision at Stevenson Road North and King Street West.

After the collision, the suspects fled on foot but were taken into custody with the help of the DRPS K-9 Unit.

Minor injuries were reported and treated at the scene due to the bear spray. Oshawa Fire attended the mall to assist with ventilation from any exposure.

Coulton Peters-McComb, 22, from Barrie, is charged with robbery, possession of a prohibited weapon, disguise with intent, possession of stolen property (over $5,000), conspiracy to commit an indictable offence and four counts of possession of a schedule 1 substance.

Romario Abraham, 18, from Mississauga is charged with robbery, possession of stolen property (over $5,000), conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, and leaving the scene of an accident.

Ryan MacPhail, 40, of no fixed address, is charged with robbery, disguise with intent, possession of stolen property (over $5,000), conspiracy to commit an indictable offence and two probation violations.

At the time of his arrest MacPhail was already on weapons prohibition conditions.

A 15-year-old from Mississauga is charged with robbery, disguise with intent, possession of stolen property (over $5,000), conspiracy to commit an indictable offence and administering a noxious substance (bear spray).

A 17-year-old from Brampton is charged with robbery, disguise with intent, possession of stolen property (over $5,000) and conspiracy to commit and indictable offence.
