Charges have been laid against a driver who police say uploaded footage of himself driving more than 200km/hr during a street race in Brampton.
Peel Regional Police say they were first made aware of the video back in June which had been shared on social media platforms including Twitter.
The video shows the driver of a 2022 Chevy Corvette stopped at a light next to a green motorcycle in the area of Steeles Ave. East and Airport Rd. in Brampton before both vehicles take off at a dizzying speed reaching upwards of 226 km/h as they pass other drivers.
Officers from the Peel police Safer Roads Team were able to identify the driver and the vehicle, saying a 22-year-old from Brampton was arrested on June 30.
Police have charged Simranjit Singh, 22, of Brampton with several offences including dangerous operation, fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle, and stunting.
The accused’s licence has been suspended and the vehicle, the Chevy Corvette, was impounded. He is scheduled in court in Brampton on August 28.
While the Corvette driver has been charged, investigators are still working to identify the motorcycle rider seen in the video. Police are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident to contact investigators at 905-453-3311 ext. 3710.
