A large plume of black smoke that could be seen for miles into Mississauga and Brampton today (June 28) came from an industrial area near Pearson Airport.

The fire started around 9 a.m. at the CN shipping container yard on Bramalea Rd., a spokesperson from Mississauga Fire and Emergency Service told insauga.com.

Many people spotted the black smoke in the area around the airport and as they were driving along Highway 401.

“Fire is visible from the Toronto Pearson tarmac,” one person tweeted.

“It caused a lot of smoke, which got a lot of 9-1-1 calls,” the spokesperson said.

The fire started in a vehicle that moves the shipping containers and spread to the container it was moving. The shipping container was empty.

No injuries reported.

Crews were on scene for about two hours.
