Police have charged one man and are still searching for more suspects following a botched daylight home invasion in Brampton where robbers went after a safe full of cash.

The break-in happened around 2 p.m. on Tuesday when Peel Regional Police say suspects forced their way into a home in the area of The Goreway Drive and Cottrelle Boulevard in Brampton.

Multiple witnesses captured the aftermath on camera with videos posted to social media showing the suspects struggling to flee with the safe, eventually abandoning it in the front yard of a home.

Peel police can be seen arriving on the scene as suspects try to flee in a dark-coloured pickup truck. Police used their cruiser to crash into the front of the truck and block the driver as a Peel police officer jumps out and shouts commands at the pair of suspects.

One suspect attempted to run from the officer on foot and was eventually caught by officers while another suspect fled in the truck.

During the incident one of the officers can be seen pointing what appears to be either a firearm or a conducted energy weapon (commonly known as a Taser) at the suspect.

Police confirmed to INsauga.com that the safe was recovered at the scene but “it is unknown yet how much money was in it.” Unconfirmed posts on social media accounts claimed there was over $1 million in the safe – a number police were unable to verify.

Investigators said the suspect who fled on foot was taken into police custody, and now confirm that a 44-year-old man has been charged.

Cecil Lindsay, 44, of no fixed address, has been charged with one count of break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Police say they still don’t have a description of the second suspect and say there may be more than one accomplice involved.

The pickup truck is described as  dark-coloured Dodge Ram with Ontario licence plate SJ3630.

No injuries were reported in the break-in and police say the investigation is ongoing.
