Fire crews and the OPP are on the side on Hwy 405 working to put out a car fully engulfed in flame near Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Police announced the blaze around 5:30 p.m. July 28. The car was sitting stopped on the right shoulder of the westbound 405 lanes west of Stanley.

This highway connects Queen Elizabeth Way to the Lewiston–Queenston Bridge crossing to the United States. The westbound lanes are completely closed down as fire crews “are doing their very best to get this fire put out as quickly as possible,” per the OPP.

“We’re gonna ask for everybody’s patience as they come through the area.” OPP continued

In their announcement video police confirmed they did not know where they driver had gotten to, but did not believe anyone was inside the car.

The OPP did not know how long the 405 would remain closed for the fire and advised drivers to avoid the area until further notice.

Update: Police confirmed the fire has been extinguished and one westbound 405 lane is now open. Police continue their investigation.
