A startling video captures arsonists setting fire to a movie theatre in Oakville.
The video, posted on YouTube by Film.Ca Cinemas, shows the culprits spreading what appears to be gasoline on the entrance of the theatre doors, then setting it on fire before making their escape.
Film.Ca Cinemas is located at Speers Road near Kerr Street in Oakville.
The incident took place in the early hours of Sept. 25, according to information supplied by the company.
No staff or customers were in the theatre at the time, and no injuries were reported.
In the video, you can see a white or grey minivan circling the vacant parking lot. It then shows two people climbing the stairs and pouring the liquid in front of the theatre doors before igniting it with what appears to be a box of matches. The area then bursts into flames while the pair runs off into the parking area.
“Film.Ca Cinemas is fully cooperating with Halton Regional Police in their ongoing investigation,” the theatre company said.
A statement by the theatre said additional security will be present at the cinemas in the future to ensure the safety of guests.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Halton Regional Police at 905-845-4747 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
The theatre has been targeted by vandals in the past during the showing of films from India. Currently, the theatre is showing They Call Him OG, a Telugu-language Indian film, but there is no indication that this led to the arson attack.
