All eastbound lanes are still closed following a multi-vehicle crash on an Ontario highway involving at least four vehicles including a transport truck.
The crash took place this afternoon (June 29) on the eastbound 401 in Milton, in between Trafalgar Road and James Snow Parkway.
The OPP says a vehicle headed eastbound tried to move towards the express exit and crashed into a cushion that separates the collector lanes from the express lanes.
The crash sent the vehicle into the path of an eastbound tractor trailer, and police say one occupant in the vehicle was rushed to hospital in serious, life-threatening condition.
At least four vehicles were involved in the collision, and a video shared with INsauga.com shows excessive debris on the roadway and significant damage to vehicles, including the truck. People can also be seen walking along the roadway.
Westbound lanes are open but traffic is expected to move very slowly in the area.
In an update around 5 p.m., police say the closures in the eastbound lanes will be in place for several hours.
Heavy traffic is expected and police are urging drivers to avoid the area and be patient.
