A video has emerged showing the aftermath of a collision between a stolen pickup truck and a pair of police cruisers last night (June 28) that left two Peel Regional Police officers with minor injuries.
The driver of the stolen pickup “intentionally” rammed the police cruisers as they tried to stop the truck at about 5 p.m. at Rathburn and Mavis Rds., police said.
The two officers were not sent to hospital and are doing fine, Peel police spokesperson Const. Tyler Bell-Morena told insauga.com.
Meanwhile, police are still looking for both the driver and the black Dodge Ram pickup with Ontario licence plate BL56559, Bell-Morena said.
Damage to the cruisers was significant and they are likely beyond repair, he added.
A video from Jonathan Craig of Mobb Media shows two fire trucks blocking a portion of Rathburn Rd. after the crash. It also shows the front ends of both cruisers smashed and debris scattered across the road.
One officer is seen getting treatment from Peel Paramedics at the scene.
Craig posted the video and a photo on Reddit, where one person claimed to have witnessed the incident.
“At first, it looked like the black Ram was doing an illegal U-turn and they didn’t see the cop. Then the Ram slammed into one of the police SUVs, backed up and peeled off,” the Reddit poster wrote.
