Victoria Day revellers in Oakville turn fireworks on police
The end of the long weekend took a nasty turn in Oakville tonight (May 22) with reports of fireworks being fired at police.
According to reports, Halton Regional Police responded to calls that Victoria Day celebrations had gotten out of hand near Lakeshore Rd. When cruisers arrived at the scene revellers turned their attention to officers and began shooting fireworks in their direction.
Lakeshore Rd. has since been closed east of Bronte St. with backup units coming in from neighbouring communities.
Several arrests have been made according to unconfirmed reports from sources.
Those at the scene now say there was a large police presence in the area with as many as 15 police cruisers on site.
Updates will be provided when more information becomes available.
