Police have charged a man following multiple violent robberies at automated teller machines in Brampton, including an assault of a senior citizen.

Peel Regional Police say the hold-ups happened inside ATM vestibules between March and June in the area of Chinguacousy Road and Queen Street East in Brampton.

In each of the three incidents, investigators say a male suspect waited and targeted victims after they withdrew cash, assaulting them and stealing their money.

One of the victims was a senior citizen, police say.

The investigation led police to arrest a 34-year-old man on Tuesday.

Peel police say Sureshkumaran Rajaputhiran, 34, of no fixed address, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with three counts of robbery.

The accused was held for a bail hearing, police say.

Police are reminding residents “to be aware of their surroundings at all times, particularly when using ATMs or handling cash withdrawals.”
