The victims in last weekend’s double murder in Bowmanville have been identified as a pair in their late twenties, one of whom was pregnant.

On Feb. 4 Durham Regional Police say they got a 911 call to check on the well-being of the residents of a home on Crombie St., a suburban street in Bowmanville’s north end.

Police arrived at the home shortly after 2 p.m. and found a man and a woman dead showing “obvious signs of trauma.” Investigators have not commented on the nature of the pair’s injuries.

After notifying the next-of-kin, police identified the victims as Aram Kamel (aka Aram Al-Kamisi), 28, and Rafad Alzubaidy, 26. Alzubaidy was pregnant at the time of her death.

Police have no suspect information or descriptions at the moment. However, they believe this is an isolated incident and that there is no further threat to the public.

Alzubaidy and Kamel are the third and fourth murder victims in Durham Region in 2023. The first was the stabbing death of John Genereux, 66 in Uxbridge on Jan. The second was the murder of Ken Chopee, 58, in Oshawa on Jan 27.

Anyone with information about the murders of Alzubaidy and Kamal can call homicide Det. Dorego at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5319 or Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
