Brampton is showing its appreciation of Canadian veterans with free rides this weekend from Brampton Transit to attend the annual Warriors’ Day Parade in Toronto.

Now in its 102nd year, the Warriors’ Day Parade is held every August during the opening weekend of the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) and is the longest-running, annual parade of its type in Canada.

This year’s parade is on Saturday (Aug. 19) and will focus on honouring the women of the Canadian Armed Forces, emergency services and the home front, and the City of Brampton is making it easier for local veterans to attend the event with free rides to and from the parade.

“Veterans who are residents of Brampton can ride Brampton Transit for free when they show their valid Brampton Transit Veteran Pass upon boarding,” the city said in a release.

Veterans can access the free rides by showing their Brampton Transit War Veteran Pass, or Canadian Armed Forces medals, berets, uniform or blazer.

The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Princes’ Gates at the CNE grounds and will run along Princes’ Boulevard, marching to the Stanley Barracks. The parade will feature veterans, military, first responders and paramilitary marching contingents, bands, and military-themed reenactors.
