Police pulled over a transport truck near Pearson Airport in Mississauga carrying vehicles reported stolen.
The transport was pulled over on Highway 401 westbound approaching Dixon Road, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a tweet today (June 23) around noon.
Police found the vehicles using the tracking capabilities on the SUVs reported stolen, police said.
The vehicles reported stolen were found inside the transport truck, Schmidt said.
Two right lanes of Highway 401 were blocked for the police investigation and for the transport truck to be towed away.
The Toronto OPP is investigating.
People were happy to hear the vehicles were intercepted.
“Good job officers…something needs to be done about these car thieves network,” one person wrote on Twitter.
“Owners will be sooo happy!” another said.
Vehicle theft has become a serious issue in recent years with auto theft rings targeting luxury vehicles and SUVs. Earlier this year, police recovered 78 vehicles that were bound for overseas.
Thieves often move the cars to Montreal and then ship them to final destinations for sale in the Middle East or Africa.
There have also been cases where people have used tracking devices such as Apple Air Tags to find their own cars and tell police.
