Vehicle plunges into Credit River in Brampton, person rescued

A person was rescued yesterday evening after emergency crews responded to a vehicle that ended up in the Credit River in Brampton.

Peel Regional Police and Brampton Fire and Emergency Services were called to the area near the community of Churchville, east of Creditview Road and north of Highway 407, shortly before 6 p.m. on July 23 after reports of a vehicle in the river.

First responders located the vehicle submerged in the water and rescued one person from inside. Officials have not released details about the individual’s identity or explained how the vehicle entered the river.

The person was transported to a nearby hospital following the rescue. There has been no update on the person’s condition or the severity of any injuries.

The emergency response brought several first responders to the area as crews worked to remove the person and assess the situation safely.

The Credit River runs through Brampton and Mississauga, passing through a mix of residential areas, parks and natural spaces. Sections of the river can vary in depth and flow depending on seasonal conditions, rainfall and water levels, though authorities have not indicated whether environmental conditions played a role in Thursday’s incident.

Police have not said whether the vehicle was involved in a collision, whether the person inside was the driver, or if any other occupants were involved. They continue to investigate the circumstances which led to the vehicle entering the river.
