Police are investigating a weekend crash into Lake Simcoe that killed one man and injured a Mississauga resident.

Emergency crews were called after a vehicle went into the lake at Line 7 South in Oro-Medonte Township around 11:45 a.m. on Friday (Dec. 15), OPP said in a press release.

Before crews arrived, a bystander pulled a person from the vehicle.

Police arrived shortly after and removed the second person and administered first aid.

The Mississauga man was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

But, sadly, the other person, a Smith Falls man was pronounced dead in hospital.

The surrounding area was searched with a City of Barrie Fire department drone for any other possible occupants.

Additionally, the OPP’s Technical Collision Investigators attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing. No further details were released.
