Uxbridge’s Bryan Marchment – a 17-year NHL veteran – dead at 53

Bryan Marchment, a 17-year NHL veteran and a long-time scout with the San Jose Sharks, has died. He was 53.
Marchment, who lived with his family in Uxbridge, was in Montreal when he died “unexpectedly,” according to his agent. No cause of death was announced.
Marchment, whose son Mason plays for the Florida Panthers, grew up in Scarborough before enjoying a stellar junior career with Belleville. He played 926 regular season NHL games (plus 83 playoff games) for Winnipeg, Chicago, Hartford, Edmonton, Tampa Bay, San Jose (where he would carve out a career as a coach and scout after his playing days were over), Colorado, Toronto and Calgary.
An old-school defenceman with a penchant for aggressive play, Marchment was suspended 13 times by the league during his first 12 seasons and incurred 2,307 penalty minutes during his career, including 313 with Chicago during the 1992-93 season.
He and his wife Kim had two children: Mason and daughter Logan.
